Q and A
OK. Here's where I answer questions that you have asked through the years and recently about Bill Tv now that it's on the www using those series of tubes. I'll keep posting what you ask so check back. Ready? Here we go!

Q: Why would you do this?
A: To drive as many people crazy as possible.

Q: How Many Bill Tv tapes were made?
A: Fourteen at my last count. Twelve Bill TV tapes that everyone got. There were two fall preview Bill TV tapes sent to the UK for two years.

Q: How many countries have seen it?
A: Let's see...the USA, Canada, England, France, Russia, Australia and New Zealand. I think that's it. I know the BBC is aware of it because they helped me get rare footage of Mr. Bean on a morning chat show once.

Q: Are there any Bill Tv T-shirts?
A: Yes there are! The internet has enabled me to make more BillTv Shirts at NO cost to me and little cost to you! (This means I make no profit from the sale of the shirts.) Go to http://billtvmacon.spreadshirt.com for US sales and http://billtvmacon.spreadshirt.net for UK sales.

Q: Who is Kayobi Wantanabi?
A: She was a girl in my nephew's class at school and I thought it was a cool name. To my knowledge she has never even seen Bill Tv.

Q: Was there really a Bill Tv staff?
A: Yes. It's kind of hard to fake Jake, Kevin, Alex and Hank doing reports on camera. <g> Also, lots of folks were great in helping come up with ideas and making them work. The Weiner mobile unit being one of them. Charles and Edward driving it made it work.

Q: Are any of your UK friends still speaking to you after Bill Tv?
A: All but one family and that's because of something stupid I said while I was over there.

Q: Anything we havent seen? A: Yes. The main reason was because it was a flub or just a crazy idea that didn't work. Who knows? I may post it all before I'm through. The older I get the more dementia will allow me to post without even knowing it!

Q: How can I get a Bill Tv tape or DVD?
A: I'm not making them anymore. Plus, that's why they're on Youtube so we can save precious "whatever I'd be wasting" by making copies and using postage.

Q: What kind of equipment did you use to make it?
A: Ah! A technical question. At first I just used my camcorder (Sony Handicam) and two VCR's, I'd do hard edits. In 1994 the Videonics video mixer was released which allowed chroma-key and special effects. That's when the song parodies started happening. It was all done in a corner of my dining room. I was given a chroma green wall by a television station because they were throwing it away.

I used a SONY, Mitsubishi and Panasonic VCR. The Panasonic is a multi-standard machine. I got it after the first Bill Tv and transfer of the tapes cost $25 each. The machine paid for itself because I was one of the few folks south of Atlanta who could do transfers. Cokes Camera, the Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau all sent folks to me.

I went non-linear editing (NLE) in 1999 with the addition of the Canopus Raptor using Adobe Premiere. That really opened the creative doors.

Q: How did people get on the list?
A: It was done for friends. So, I guess you could say the price was really high. I did have someone beg for one in Australia when I did the Aleksei Nemov feature.

Q: What was the most complicated thing you've done on Bill Tv?
A: That would be Big Mouth Bill. It was a span of two months taping and putting together. I filmed the singing part first. Then, worked out the way it would look by producing the audio clips with my head and the frame. Once that was done, I got Heyward and Jake to be in it. The interiors were shot in their home. They were both fantastic and really made it work. Then, Kenny and Dawn Burgamy agreed to let me use them for the "hanging" picture" scene. Bob Meloche kindly agreed to do the voiceover for it. I can't thank everyone enough for their talent and input.

Q: Will you ever make any new content?
A: There is new content on now! I've decided it may be fun to take Bill Tv to the next phase. The Vlog link (video blog) will play new content. Also, there are about three song parodies I have in my head to do, but I don't have the time right now.

Q: Why did you decide to put it on Youtube?
A: I finally discovered how to do it when I made a video for the Ellison-Bier Band. I started trying to transfer old VHS tapes to DVD for archival reasons and thought....why not?! Plus, there's a cool part knowing that when I'm gone this stuff will be floating around the internet...or whatever it is by then. With my luck Google will sell Youtube and it'll all be gone again. lol

Q: Why do you have this page and a Youtube page?
A: Well..you get a Youtube page when you open an account to upload footage. I will say that the most and best information about the videos will always be on this web site and this page. It doesn't matter when you watch it as it is the same content. To me, the player are cool and I like the way you'll play everything back to back for you.
